Thank You for Helping Addison, our Miracle Daughter, Get Better

On June 18, I gave birth to my daughter, Addison, at Mercy Hospital in Janesville. She was 2 1/2 weeks early.

The night before, I knew something just wasn't right so that made me go to the hospital. They admitted me, and the following day they did some more testing. Overall, they could tell that she wasn't happy inside anymore - they needed to get her out and they did with an emergency c-section.

When she was born, Addison wasn't breathing and, of course, I was terrified because I really didn't know what was going on. It turned out that she had a bowel movement while still inside me and inhaled some of it. At one point, we didn't know if she was going to make it because that's how sick she was.

Because of her condition, Addison was transported to Meriter's NICU. I can't even begin to express my thanks to Meriter. During the three days that I was still at Mercy, they did such an amazing job with keeping me posted on her condition.

Addison spent 8 days in the NICU, and everyone involved with her did such an amazing job with her. I was really happy that I was able to stay the night with her on her last night there. It was such an emotional roller coaster for my husband, my family and me.

The staff at Meriter was always there for us no matter what time of the day it was, and it didn't matter what we needed. We would like to thank:

  • All of the doctors who helped with Addison's care: Dr. Greer, Dr. Shah, Dr. Kessel, Dr. Baker, and the rest of the residents.

  • All of the wonderful nurses who helped our Addy get better: Sue, Patricia, Jamie, Cheryl, Tracey, Paula, Margot, and anyone else I didn't get to meet.

  • Shannon and Allison for your company, support, and getting to know you.

  • The respiratory therapist who helped her (unfortunately I do not know your name because I didn't get to meet you, but thank you).
Overall, thank you Meriter Hospital for helping our miracle daughter, Addison, get better and for your outstanding care for her. THANK YOU again!

As for an update on Addison: She is eating great! At her last check up on 7/02, she weighed 7 lbs., 2 oz., and her platelet count is now normal. All of you at Meriter will always hold a special place in our hearts for what you did!
