My first pregnancy--that I waited and tried for for 10 years--was a scary journey. At my first ultrasound at Meriter, I was told the baby had only two blood vessels, not three, to his umbilical cord. I was seen every month to check his growth.
At 30 weeks, my blood pressure rose so high that I had to go into the hospital. I received two injections designed to help the baby's lungs develop, in case I had to deliver early.
I spent 19 days on bedrest. I would have a biphysical profile with good news one day and not so good news the next day.
At 34 weeks, I had a c-section and delivered a 3-pound, 3-ounce baby boy. I heard him and was able to give him a kiss. The next time I saw him was 24 hours later when I came off my IV.
He was in the NICU for 10 days where he received the best care I could have asked for. All the nurses were very caring and helpful.
I would tell everyone who is high risk that, at Meriter, their baby is in the best place it could be in. April
