Meriter: Serving Our Community


Learn more about upcoming community events supported by Meriter Health Services.

Meriter staff participates in area events to make a difference.

The staff and physician of Meriter Health Services will be participating in several area events to help improve the lives of those in our community.

October 1 – Leukemia and Lymphoma Society Light the Night Event – Olin Park. 5pm – Check-in; 6:30pm – Walk Start. 
This two-mile twilight walk that features participants carrying illuminated balloons to celebrate and commemorate lives touched by cancer. Cancer supporters carry red balloons, while cancer survivors carry white balloons and gold balloons are carried in memory of lives lost to cancer. Together, they "light the night" and truly brighten the future for millions touched by cancer.  For more information, please visit http://www.lightthenight.org/wi/ for more information.

October 2 – NAACP Freedom Fund Dinner – Marriott Hotel, Middleton – 7pm
Locally, the NAACP focuses on building stronger communities and youth program, supports civil rights and laws ad well as improve the quality of life for all greater Madison residents. 

October 4 – JAVA Jive Coffee Tasting to Benefit the Rape Crisis Center – 9am-12:30pm; the Brink Lounge, 701 East Washington Ave. 
Enjoy coffee tasting, breakfast, silent auction and raffle as well as live jazz from the Jan Wheaton Duo while supporting the Rape Crisis Center (RCC) The RCC provides services to the survivors (and their family and friends) of all forms of sexual violence, including recent sexual assault, past sexual assault, incest (past or present), sexual harassment, and sexual exploitation.  Services are free and include crisis intervention and support, short-term counseling, therapy groups, advocacy and amore RCC serves women, children, and men.   For more information, please visit http://danecountyrcc.org.

October 4 – NAMIWalk for the Mind of America – Olin Park -11am registration, 1pm start
This 5k walk raises awareness about the prevalence of mental health issues in our community. According to the National Institute of Mental Health, 1 in 4 adults will experience a mental health disorder in any given year.  Additionally, the US Surgeon General reports that about 10% of children and adolescents in the United States suffer from a serious emotional and mental disorder that cause significant issues in their day-to-day lives.  For more information, please visit the NAMI Walks section of http://www.namidanecounty.org.

October 10 – American Heart Walk – Warner Park, 8am registration 9:30 start
The American Heart Association Walk is a healthy, fun family event that promotes physical activity as part of a heart-healthy lifestyle and raises funds for research and programs to fight heart disease, stroke and other cardiovascular diseases.  For more information, please visit: http://heartwalk.kintera.org/faf/home/default.asp?ievent=300038.

October 13 – Safe Communities Be Safe Luncheon - Inn of the Park, Madison, 12noon – 1:30pm
Celebrating 10 years of making the Greater Madison area a safer place, Safe Communities is a local public/private partnership that sustains joint action by area agencies, businesses, and neighborhoods to save lives and prevent serious injuries.   To learn more, visit http://www.safercommunity.net/awardslunch.html
