Our Pediatricians' Philosophy

As Meriter Medical Group pediatricians, we want to provide quality, easy-to-access medical care for children in a safe and friendly environment. Our philosophy is to work with you as a partner in your child's medical care, giving you the guidance you and your child need throughout all stages of his or her life. We are committed to keeping family needs at the forefront and promise to explain everything clearly to keep you well informed.

Viren Bavishi, D.O.Viren Bavishi, D.O.
"My approach to practicing pediatric medicine is to provide the highest quality of care that I would want my own children to receive."

Dr. Bavishi began his college career as an economics major, but a few pre-med courses led him to his true calling: medicine. He is a graduate of the Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine and completed his residency at Hope Children's Hospital.

Dr. Bavishi is an experienced board certified pediatrician committed to providing outstanding medical care to all of his patients. Forming a bond with his patients and families is critical, as it builds a level of trust and comfort that makes for an effective and open relationship. He has a particular interest in food allergies, preventative medicine, asthma, and working with parents and children on healthy lifestyle issues. Outside of the office, Dr. Bavishi loves to spend time with his wife and two children. His hobbies include hiking, jogging, rock climbing, biking, and tennis.

George Idárraga, M.D.George Idárraga, M.D.
"I look forward to collaborating with parents to help them navigate through both the joys and challenges of raising children."

Dr. Idárraga completed his undergraduate degree from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire in broadcast communications. He moved on to receiving his medical degree from the Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee, and traveled outside of Wisconsin to complete his residency at the University of Kentucky. His background in communications proved vital to communicating effectively with patients. After his residency, Dr. Idárraga went on to work as a practicing pediatrician in Milwaukee for 11 years, and he worked as an Associate Clinical Professor at Marquette University.

With an easy-going attitude and comforting demeanor, Dr. Idárraga wants your child to leave his office with a smile and excited to return. His friendly attitude creates open and honest communication with his patients, which is critical in creating a bond built on trust and respect. Dr. Idárraga likes to spend time with his family and taking on a variety of do-it-yourself home remodeling projects. He also enjoys running and cooking.

Dana Johnson, M.D.Dana Johnson, M.D.
"My goal is to partner with families to raise happy, healthy children. Good communication is the cornerstone of the ideal doctor-patient relationship…one that is open and honest.

Dr. Johnson's interest in pediatrics grew from her love of children and her desire to work with them in ways she would find challenging and rewarding. She received her undergraduate degree at the University of Tennessee and went on to receive her medical degree from the University Of Iowa Carver College Of Medicine. She later completed her residency at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health.

Every child Dr. Johnson sees is unique, with different medical conditions, varying symptoms and distinct responses to treatment. But in their parents, she's more likely to see similarities: a need for information, support in making decisions and help to do all they can to raise a healthy child. That is why she stresses the importance of communication to her patients and their parents and works with them as a partner in health care. Dr. Johnson enjoys spending time outside of her practice with her family. She takes pleasure in any outdoor activity, especially camping and hiking.

Sumita Ram, M.D.Sumita Ram, M.D.
"Parenting can be exciting, fun and, sometimes, scary. It is comforting for parents to walk this journey with a support system of people who will understand, empathize and guide them. As your pediatrician, I will strive to be an important member of this group."

Dr. Ram was raised in the Midwest. She attended the College of Wooster in Ohio, and went on to receive her medical degree from The Ohio State University College of Medicine. She completed her residency and later her fellowship at the James Whitcomb Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis.

After completing her fellowship, Dr. Ram continued to work as an Assistant Clinical Professor of General Pediatrics for the Indiana University Medical Group for 13 years until she moved to Madison to work as a General Pediatrician. Dr. Ram believes her role is to be the educator and facilitator for patients and parents to live a healthy lifestyle. She keeps patients and their families informed every step of the way, building a relationship of trust and confidence and the foundation to a successful partnership. Dr. Ram enjoys spending time with her children and is very involved with their activities, including coaching youth soccer, leading Girl Scouts and volunteering in the classroom.
